Baton Rouge Magnet High Student Selected As Semifinalist in Presidential Scholars Competition

BRMHS senior Leixin R. Zhao was selected as a Presidential Scholar Semifinalist
Baton Rouge, La. - Leixin R. Zhao, a senior at Baton Rouge Magnet High School, is a semifinalist in the 2007 Presidential Scholars competition. Leixin was chosen from among 2,700 students who were named as candidates for the prestigious honor.
Each year the U.S. Department of Education honors high school seniors from across the country for their academic success and overall talents. Leixin is the only student from the Baton Rouge area selected as a semifinalist. There are 550 semifinalists nationwide. Baton Rouge Magnet High School led the region with five students selected as candidates.

Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center).
