Cedarcrest-Southmoor Elementary Students Win Top Awards in Newspaper Competition

Savasia S. and Chloe E. win top prizes at Current Events Rally
Baton Rouge, La. – 5th graders Savasia S. and Chloe E. outshined many of their competitors at the The Advocate’s annual 5th Grade Current Events Rally. Savasia took home 2nd place overall and Chloe earned a 4th place ranking. Savasia took top prizes in individual categories. She mastered the Who’s Who-Famous and Infamous Photos competition, landing in 1st place and placed 3rd in the essay competition.
47 public and parochial school students from across Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes participated in the competition. Congratulations Savasia and Chloe for a job well done. Keep up the good work!
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center).
