Concert About Music And All That Jazz At Capitol Elementary

Students (pictured) were snapping their fingers and bobbing to the downbeat during a recent concert by Jazz musician and Grammy nominee Carla Cook (back row, far right) and her band. The group performed a concert at Capitol Elementary School. This in-school program was made possible through a collaboration of the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and the Baton Rouge Chapter of the Links. Cook scored a Grammy Award nomination for her first album, 1999's It's All About Love, then toured internationally and won recognition as a rising star.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
