Students, parents and community members joined together to dance, paint and write during the recent Baton RougeParentUniversity program Exploring the Arts.Held at McKinleyMiddleAcademicMagnet School, the event featured art teachers and presenters from the East Baton Rouge Parish School System and area organizations.Besides interactive sessions like I Like the Way You Move, a dance course (first photo), there were special presentations by artists, such as Crystal Leigh Endsley (second photo, left).Endsley’s dissertation focuses on an integrative performing arts group she helped develop.In addition, informational booths were set up for such organizations as LSUCollege of Education’s Gear Up program, represented by Letrez Myer (second photo, right).
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
