Brookstown Elementary Celebrates 100 Days of School
- January 25, 2011
At the 100th Day Celebration, students assisted Granny Penny (aka Math coach Rosemary Kramer), the 100-year-old woman who emceed and organized the Brookstown Elementary Century Showcase.
On January 20, Brookstown Elementary School students showed off what they learned the first 100 days of school during the school’s 100th Day Celebration. During the Century Showcase, student activities included lessons learned regarding the number 100 through Math, Reading, Writing, Physical Education, Music, Science and Social Studies activities and projects. Special 100th Day class projects were on display, and those attending were encouraged to dress as their favorite historical figure, participate in the "Human Timeline" and compete for the best costume prize.
In addition, third graders serenaded attendees with a 100th Day theme song, and a fourth-grade Degree Squad exhibited their precision skills in regards to knowledge of degrees in a circle, clockwise, counter-clockwise, fractions and geometry -- much like a military drill theme. Another class magnified by "hundreds of powers" various items during "Scope on a Rope," and the fifth graders guided visitors to towns 100 miles north, south, west and east of Brookstown Elementary. Finally, there were collections of “hundreds” of things by several students and classes up for display or in competitions.
