Representatives of an insurance firm, including former Louisiana State University Women’s Basketball star Kisha James, have adopted Belfair Elementary School this year. Bankers Life and Casualty, where James also works, has several agents who visit classes at the Montessori Magnet Program school to read to students on a regular basis.
“I teach Primary Montessori, so the little ones need and enjoy lots of story time and adult attention,” said teacher Marcia LeCompte. “The men and women who come to read are all sales agents who work on commission only, so they truly are giving of their time to come and do this. Since this group of people has started reading to them, I see how much more interested my children are in books and an increase in their attention span.”
