East Baton Rouge Parish School Board Vacancy: Board to Select New Board Member November 4

Greg Baldwin, the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board member representing District 8, announced his resignation from the School Board effective today, October 27.
Due to this resignation, the School Board will hold a special Board meeting Thursday, November 4, to appoint a qualified resident of School Board District 8 to serve until the duly elected member takes office in January 2011. The special Board meeting will take place prior to the School Board’s regularly scheduled Committee of the Whole meeting which begins at 5:00 p.m. that evening.
Qualified residents of School Board District 8 interested in serving should submit a letter of intent, a resume and/or short biographical information. Each applicant also must submit a Certificate of Residency/Qualifications issued by the East Baton Rouge Parish Registrar of Voters. The Certificate of Residency/Qualifications is free of charge. Interested residents are asked to submit the requested documentation to:

The deadline for submitting a letter of intent is noon Wednesday, November 3.
Persons eligible to serve as members of the School Board shall have the following minimum qualifications:
1. A School Board member shall have attained the age of eighteen (18).
2. A School Board member shall be domiciled in the election district for the preceding year, except after reapportionment.
3. A Board Member shall have resided in the state for the preceding two (2) years.
4. A Board Member shall be able to read and write.
5. A Board Member shall not be serving on certain other boards specified in the Constitution of Louisiana.
6. A Board Member shall have affirmed to the prescribed oath.
All applicants also must disclose if a member of their immediate family is an employee of the School System. "Immediate family" as the term relates to a public servant means his children, the spouses of his children, his brothers and their spouses, his sisters and their spouses, his parents, his spouse and the parents of his spouse.

On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center).
