Delmont Elementary Students Receive Books
- Oct 26, 07
Students at Delmont Elementary received quite a treat Friday, October 26, 2007. The I Am Foundation and the World Relief Foundation joined forces to donate books to kids throughout the world. During the tour, the group came to Delmont Elementary to donate books to each of the 448 students enrolled at the school.
The I Am Foundation was founded in 1996 by Steve Viglione. Mr. Viglione began his presentation to the students by telling them “Everybody has a dream. My dream was to donate books to children all over the world.” He encouraged each student to have a dream of their own. Viglione’s wife, Dr. Marilyn Powers, Vice President of the I Am Foundation, shared several quotes from her husband’s book, “The I Am! Affirmation Book.”
The I Am Foundation also had a special guest with them for this book gifting tour. Jeff Goonewardena, Sri Lanka Consul General, came to the United States to help give children books. Goonewardena thanked the faculty and students for all of their help and donations that came from America after the Tsunami in 2004. He said that this was a way for the people of Sri Lanka to give back to those devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
Girl Scout Troop 31 from Episcopal Lower Elementary School also helped by collecting and distributing more than 620 books to the students at Delmont Elementary.
The I Am Foundation has donated more than 700,000 books to children in 30 countries in their Million Books for Kids Campaign.
