BRCVPA Orchestra Receives Superior Rating at Large Ensemble Fest

The Baton Rouge Center for Visual & Performing Arts Orchestra recently received a Superior Rating at the Louisiana Music Educators’ Association’s (LMEA) Large Ensemble District Festival held at Woodlawn High School. In addition, the school Orchestra won the Sweepstakes Trophy, which means all four judges unanimously rated the group Superior.
Besides violins, cellos and bass violins, the Orchestra also includes percussion, flute, harp, clarinet, trumpet and a piano. The Orchestra was the youngest group to perform at the District Festival and will compete at the LMEA State Festival in Lake Charles on Monday, May 2. Last year, the Orchestra was the only elementary group to compete at the State Festival
BRCVPA’s Orchestra students are: Bill Long, Justin Wu, Daniel Saravia, Jonathon Wu, Chris McCaskill, Cole Young, Allen Wang, Judah Cheong, Arash Amini, Leigh Ann Cloudet, Darla Shaler, Bryn Parker, Jake Cotten, John Nash, Ty’Varius Haynes, Cody Stevenson, Samaria Smith, Ben Martin, Jordan Turner, Jane Wallace and Troy Rivet. Michael Fuller is its Instrumental Music teacher and conductor.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
