There was patriotic music, dancing, singing, speeches and food to mark a special celebration and breakfast program Friday, November 11, at Buchanan Elementary School. The school held its Grandparents/Veteran’s Day Program with the theme “We Are Thankful for Our Heroes!”
Grandparents, like U.S. Navy veteran Laurence Fraser and his grandson, pre-K student Aidan O’Brian, (pictured) enjoyed their grandchildren while being entertained by the school’s Strings Ensemble, the Buchanan Dancing Sensations and readings by students Ashley Jones and Marley Corey. In addition, teacher April Skipper-Washington sang “Wind Beneath My Wings,” followed by remarks by Ret. Gunnery Sgt. Burnell Thompson, USMC.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center).
