Glen Oaks High School Cadet is the Youngest to Receive State Award - Aug 14, 2007

Cadet\Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Marquinta T. Winding is starting the school year with a prestigious honor. The Glen Oaks High School senior was honored with the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Parish and State award. 

The award is sponsored by The General Philemon Thomas Chapter and State Society Competition. The SAR parish and state members honored Cadet\LTC Winding during a luncheon at the Baton Rouge Country Club and presented her with two E Saving Bonds, certificates and ribbons. The SAR award honors leadership and academics and at the age of 15, Cadet\LTC Winding is the youngest JROTC member to receive the award. Her age may surprise you, but Cadet\LTC Winding skipped the seventh grade. She is considered a rising star by her Principal Wilbert C. August and the staff at Glen Oaks High. Cadet\LTC Winding sits at the top of her class with an outstanding grade point average of 4.43.  Cadet\LTC Winding plans to apply to West Point.

Recently,Cadet\Major Winding was promoted to Cadet\Lieutenant Colonel, Panthers Battalion Commander for the 2007-2008 school year. The JROTC member is very involved in Glen Oaks High School activities. She was elected Senior Class President for 2007-2008; selected Miss Senior and appointed captain of the volleyball team.
