Cassidy Presents Mayfair Middle with Flag Flown Over Capitol
- February 14, 2011
During a flag presentation ceremony held Thursday, February 3, U.S. Congressman William Cassidy, M.D., awarded Mayfair Middle School with a U.S. flag that flew over the United States Capitol. The flag was presented to school staff who are veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.
After Mayfair Middle moved to its current site, the school was without a flag. According to School Principal Shonell LeDuff, the flag presentation was made possible by School Board Member Connie Bernard, who represents District 8 – Mayfair Middle’s district. On a recent visit to the school, Bernard asked LeDuff if she there was anything she do for the school. LeDuff pointed to the empty flag pole, and stated that a flag for the flag pole would be helpful.
Bernard contacted the local congressional office of Cassidy, who promptly provided a flag for the school. During the flag presentation ceremony, Cassidy spoke to students about the importance of recognizing and honoring military veterans for sacrifices they made for the country.
