School Board Honors District’s Counselors of the Year

Variste, Malbrue and McGee
Three outstanding school counselors were honored last night, May 19, at the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board meeting. Doris Variste, Monica Malbrue and Carolyn McGee were recognized as the East Baton Rouge Parish School System’s School Counselors of the Year.
Variste is the Elementary School Counselor of the Year and serves at Wildwood Elementary School, where she has been in this capacity for 13 of her 16 total years as a counselor. She has 36 years in education.
Malbrue is the Middle School Counselor of the Year and has been a counselor at Park Forest Middle School for six years. Of her 15 years total in education, 13 of them have been as a counselor. Malbrue is a National Certified Counselor and a National Certified School Counselor.
McGee is the High School Counselor of the Year. She has counseled students at Belaire High School fir six years. All 14 years of her education career have been spent as a school counselor.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
