Proposed Changes to the 10-year Tax Plan. Community Forums Scheduled.
- Oct 12, 10
Due to a decrease in sales tax revenues in recent years, the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board must re-evaluate the current tax proposal. The tax plan is funded by a 1-cent sales tax approved by voters in 1998 and last renewed in 2008. Current estimates indicate that revenue generated by the tax plan will be reduced by approximately $92 million.
During the October 11 School Board workshop, Superintendent John Dilworth presented an initial draft proposal calling for limited school consolidation and closures. However, before a formal recommendation is made to the School Board, the community will have the opportunity to attend two forums to share concerns and ideas prior to Board action.
The first community forum is scheduled Monday, October 18, at NewLightMissionaryBaptistChurch located at 650 Blount Road. The second community forum is scheduled for Tuesday, October 19, at PolkElementary School located at 408 East Polk Street. Both forums begin at 6:30 p.m.
