Delmont Elementary Students Launch a Year of Reading

Celebrity guests filled the halls of Delmont Elementary School on the first day of classes. First day activities included members of the community reading to students in class. It was all part of their reading theme this year.
Invited guest were Yvette Alexander, City Court Judge, John Pierre, Vice Chancellor Southern University Law Center, Mrs. Eula V. Smith, Volunteers in Public Schools and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church Sisterhood, Roderick White, Professor Southern University Law Center, Dr. Dorothy Thompson, Retired Chair of the Biology Department at Southern University, Frankie Poland, Clarice Minor, Mertis Piper Shiloh Baptist Church Sisterhood, and Dale Flowers former Chief of Campus Security at Southern University.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
