East Baton Rouge Parish Schools Fitness Team Defended 2010 Title at State Meet, Walked Away with Top Place Once Again

Not only did the East Baton Rouge Parish School System’s student team defend its 2010 title, it also walked away the 2011 Louisiana Schools Elementary Fitness Met Championship title once again after the state meet, which was held April 16 at Louisiana State University’s Huey P. Long Indoor Track Facility. The district, with 2,634 points, easily defeated second place Lafayette Parish schools (2,558 points) and third place Rapides Parish schools (2,540 points).
The district’s state meet participants included: (pictured, front row, left to right) coach March Luckett (LaSalle Elementary), coach Carol Revel (Westdale Heights Academic Magnet School-WHAM), Chris Williamston (LaSalle), Joshua London (WHAM), Daisia Rixter (LaSalle), Malik Kelly (Shenandoah Elementary), coach Courtney Comeaux (Shenandoah), (back row, left to right) Jurnee Lindsey (LaSalle), Alaycia Whitker (Wedgewood Elementary, Ken Jenkins (director of the district’s Student Activities).
The East Baton Rouge Parish Fitness Meet Team also had several individual winners at the event, including: • Kelly – First Place, Boys’ Individual Points Total (crowned Mr. Fitness 2011) • Williamston -- Second Place in Boys’ Individual Points Total • Rixter – Third Place in Girls’ Individual Points Total
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
