Forest Heights Academy Teacher Nets Music Program Grant

National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) Susan Chernetz recently was awarded a $2,150 grant for her vocal music program at Forest Heights Academy of Excellence. The grant was funded through the Kinder Morgan Foundation and will be used to cover the cost of students attending the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra’s Discovery Concert and participating in one of four school-site presentations by professional musicians. Kinder Morgan is one of the largest pipeline transportation and energy storage companies in North America. The company’s southeast operations include the 3,100-mile refined petroleum Plantation Pipeline System, which originates in the city of Baton Rouge. The Kinder Morgan Foundation supports youth programs in areas of company operations that focus on education, the arts and the environment.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
