East Baton Rouge Parish School System Helps Apartment Fire Victims

Broadmoor High School was opened as a Red Cross shelter early Monday morning when a massive fire broke out at the Mirage Villa Apartment complex. About 50 people have registered at the Red Cross shelter. Mental health counselors are available to assist those in need.
In cooperation with the Louisiana Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, many EBR schools are designated as shelters in times of need. When Principal Daryl Glueck was contacted at 1:30 a.m. on Monday, November 19 about the possibility of using his school as a shelter for the displaced residents, he didn't think twice. "Anything that we can do to help in their time of need, we are here to assist."
Students of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System are not in school this week due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Students return to school on Monday, November 26, 2007.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
