EBRPSS Fitness Team Finishes Second at State Meet

Many of our elementary students are fit and fast, and the proof was in the pudding April 25 when the East Baton Rouge Parish School System fitness team placed second overall in the Governor’s Games -- Louisiana Elementary School Fitness Meet Championship held at Lafayette High School.
School System student team members included: Kameron Cummings of Shenandoah Elementary, Taiylor DeMoss of Audubon Elementary, Spencer Moore of LaSalle Elementary, Lyndon Rash III of Merrydale Elementary and Jamiee Williams and Catherine Zhou, both of Westdale Heights Magnet Elementary. Twenty parishes had students represented in the Governor’s Games.
Individual student awards went to: Cummings – Mr. Fitness 2009, second place in 50-yard dash, first place in boys curl-ups and first place in boys V-sit reach; DeMoss – second place in girls overall, first place in girls pull-ups and second place in girls curl-ups; Moore – third place in boys pull-ups; Zhou – first place in girls V-sit reach (a new meet record); and Rash – alternate for the team broke 600-yard run (best time). Miss Louisiana 2009 Blair Abere presented the awards.

Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
