Flamenco Dancers Hold Workshop for BR FLAIM Students

After students visited the Manship Theatre February 7 to watch a performance by the Flamenco Vivo with Carlota Santana Dance troupe, the dancers then visited them at the Baton Rouge Foreign Language Academic Immersion Magnet (BR FLAIM) School. At the school, dancers like Leslie Roybal (pictured) held a workshop to teach students how to dance the Flamenco.
The program was brought to BR FLAIM by Manship Theatre and is supported in part by a Decentralized Arts Funding Grant from the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge in cooperation with the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, and the Louisiana State Arts Council.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
