The Baton Rouge Fire Department turned up the heat on one lucky art student at Glasgow Middle School today, March 4, with a special surprise announcement. Television crews were on hand this morning as Fire Chief Ed Smith entered the school’s Talented Visual Arts classroom with an unexpected award for eighth grader Amber Johnese.
Johnese won the Fire Department’s student contest for a truck decal design to commemorate its Class 1 rating. She later unveiled the finished decal affixed to a fire truck then joined her mother, Felicia Johnese, in a flashing-lights, siren-sounded ride to celebrate her win (Johnese, pictured on the truck with her decal art at lower right).
