Helping Haiti: Glen Oaks High Students, Staff Collect Funds and Toiletries for Haitian Earthquake Victims

Over the last two weeks, the students and staff of Glen Oaks High School have banded together to help the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti. This week, teachers Kerri Thomas (left, in photo) and Jean Robinson (right) presented a check for $2,037 to Ethel Luckett (center) of the area American Red Cross office. Red Cross will use the funds for earthquake assistance.
In addition, students collected toothpaste and toiletries and added them to those being sent to Haiti by Southern University.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
