Health Fair: School District Employees Lead by Example

The room was packed on today, July 21, at the East Baton Rouge Parish School System’s Health Fair at the Instructional Resource Center. School System reitrees and employees, like Capitol Elementary School teacher Amelia Genove (right, in photo) with nurse Dell Mars (left), participated in free health screenings, sat in on health-related presentations and picked up informational packets and samples. Several sponsors had booths on site, as well, including: AlwaysCare, the East Baton Rouge Federation of Teachers, Louisiana Association of Educators, Nationwide Better Health, YMCA, hospitals, insurers and many others. The health fair will continue tomorrow, July 22.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
