Law Firm Donates Dictionaries to Third Grade Students
- Nov 29, 07
Kean Miller Law Firm and the LouisianaResourceCenter for Educators (LRCE) partnered for the sixth straight year to donate dictionaries to third grade public school students in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. Since the program began, Kean Miller has given out more than 45,000 dictionaries.
Charles McCowan, a partner with Kean Miller Law Firm, decided to start donating dictionaries to third grade students after he read in the Wall Street Journal about a woman in South Carolina who was donating dictionaries to third grade students throughout the state each year. McCowan contacted Nancy Roberts, Executive Director for the LRCE, to find out how Kean Miller could do the same for students in Louisiana.
“It’s important as legal professional to help deliver the meaning of words to students. We work with words daily, and we find that it is important for children to receive the dictionaries to give them an understanding of words,” says Denise Duszynski, coordinator of the dictionary project at Kean Miller.
Charlotte Placide, Superintendent of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, expressed her appreciation towards Kean Miller. “If you have ever delivered dictionaries to the students, you know how excited the children are. Please keep doing it.”
This year, Kean Miller will donate 7,300 dictionaries to students. Dictionaries were also donated to students in Calcasieu, Iberville and West Baton Rouge Parishes.
