Kiwanis Club Members Donate Toiletries, Backpacks for Mohican Education Center Students in Need

When Delores Watts, principal of the Mohican Education Center, discovered some of her students were in need of basic toiletries and backpacks, she reached out to the Kiwanis Club of South Baton Rouge – and the members answered her call. The Kiwanis Club members, including President Clarissa Preston and C. Denise Marcelle, who also is city councilwoman of District 7, collected a number of items, like toothbrushes and soap, plus 30 backpacks, and donated them to the school at a recent club meeting. Watts accepted the items on behalf of students.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center).
