McKinley Middle teacher Sean Joffroin presents Patti Labelle with a self-portrait created by sixth grader Terrani Dillahunty.
McKinley Middle Magnet sixth grade student Terrani Dillahunty recently received high praise from Grammy™ Award winning singer Patti Labelle. During a performance last month in Marksville, Louisiana, Labelle was presented with a self-portrait created by the talented art student.
The gift was arranged by Sean Joffroin, a teacher at McKinley Middle Magnet. Joffroin’s sister arranged a “meet and greet” with Labelle as a holiday gift for her brother, who is a huge fan of the songstress. Joffroin said he wanted to present Labelle with a gift and he collaborated with McKinley Middle art teacher Alan Morton to select a student to create a painting for her. Terrani Dillahunty received the honor. Joffroin says Labelle was extremely impressed with the portrait. He said she was even more impressed when he revealed a sixth grade student was the artist. “This child is talented!” Labelle said. “I see her going places with her art!”
