School Board Hosts Legislators’ Breakfast

The School System’s annual breakfast for area legislators was hosted by members of the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board and Superintendent Charlotte Placide on May 6. Held at the Kean Miller Law Firm, the forum allowed discussion of state issues affecting public education.
The main topics of discussion related to state legislation currently being discussed during the Louisiana Legislative Session. These topics include: School Board Reform, Retiree Healthcare Reform, School-Based Health and Dental Care, Student Truancy and Additional State funding for Pre-K Programs.
Placide also updated the legislators in attendance about the district being recommended for national accreditation. In addition to area legislators, members of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education were also in attendance.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
