LaSalle Elementary School Named Top Team in 26th Annual East Baton Rouge Parish Elementary Fitness Meet

Thirty-eight school teams from throughout East Baton Rouge Parish competed in the 26th Annual Elementary Fitness Meet recently at Southeast Middle School, and LaSalle Elementary School walked away the top school team with a total 2,422 points. LaSalle Elementary team members include: (pictured front row, left to right) Daisia Rixter, Jurnee Lindsey, (back row, left to right) Jai’Cedric Williams, Jaquyll McQuirter, Chris Williamston and Coach Luckett.
In addition, East Baton Rouge Parish Schools also making the top 10 team list included: Westdale Heights Academic Magnet (second), Shenandoah (third), Wedgewood (fourth), Baton Rouge Center for Visual & Performing Arts (sixth), Glen Oaks Park (seventh), Cedarcrest-Southmoor (ninth) and Parkview (10th).
Other awards were: Rixter – New record in girls’ curl-ups (102 in 1 minute) Malik Kelly of Shenandoah – New record in boys’ curl-ups (118 in 1 minute) Rixter – Top Female Participant Kelly – Top Male Participant
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
