- February 4, 2010
Woodlawn Elementary School Principal Susan Kornuta (pictured, left) and Scotlandville Elementary School Principal Raquel Square (right) are so proud of their students’ involvement in a Lady Tigers academic program, they took to the live airwaves Tuesday night, February 2, on “The Van Chancellor Show presented by Capital One Bank.” Chancellor (center), head coach for the Louisiana State University Women’s Basketball Team, helped them promote the team’s Goals, Perseverance and Achievement (GPA) Program on his LSUsports.net radio show held at Walk-Ons restaurant.
The program is active in 14 elementary and middle schools throughout the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. Each school, including Woodlawn and Scotlandville elementaries, has adopted a basketball player. The players often read to students, talk about grades in relation to athletics and serve as role models. For more information about this program, contact Tom Harlukowicz at (225) 578-6659 or tomh@lsu.edu.
