Beads, masks and costumes were the uniform of the day recently when schools across the East Baton Rouge Parish School System held mini parades to celebrate Mardi Gras. Pre-K and kindergarten students at South Boulevard French Language Academic Magnet School created floats out of cardboard, glitter, bikes and wagons and threw beads and candy to the older students during their parade. The parade at Southdowns Elementary School was similar, and one lucky girl even managed to catch a green teddy bear during the festivities.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center).
