Altrusa Club, Constable’s Honor Guard Hold Flag Raising September 9 at Merrydale Elementary to Commemorate

The Altrusa Club of Baton Rouge celebrated “Make A Difference Day” in September by partnering with the Baton Rouge City Constable’s Office and Merrydale Elementary School to hold an event to remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
They presented an American flag to the school on Friday, September 9. Formal ceremonies were conducted by the Constable’s Honor Guard under the direction of Constable Reginald Brown and coordinated by Sgt. Ganiyu Jimoh. Raising the flag were (pictured at the flagpole, left to right) Cpl. Steptor Perry and Dep. Henry Pointer.
In addition, the school created a flag patrol to be coordinated under the constable and Honor Guard. Ten male students on the flag patrol will be in charge of raising and lowering the flag each day.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
