Three current students and one former student of Northeast High School recently were honored with national Future Farmers of America (FFA) awards.  The school’s FFA advisor is Barret Hargrave (pictured, second from right).

The National FFA Agricultural Proficiency Award winners from Northeast High School included:  Eleisha Carlson (now graduated, pictured third from the left) Wildlife Production and Management – Bronze Emblem; James Fisher (fourth from left), Turf Grass Management – Bronze Emblem; Jared Lasyone (third from the right), Floriculture, Entrepreneurship/Placement – Bronze Emblem; and Shelby Wilson (second from the left), Veterinary Medicine – Bronze Emblem.

The Agricultural Proficiency Awards program like the FFA motto helps FFA members set goals and learn practical skills. The program rewards FFA members at the local, state and national levels for exceptional accomplishments and excellence in a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) program.  They will be recognized at the 83^rd National FFA Convention October 20-23.  There are 47 Award areas, each with Gold, Silver and Bronze awards.

FFA is a dynamic youth organization that is a part of agricultural education programs at middle and high schools. Today, student members are engaged in a wide range of curriculum and FFA activities, leading to more than 300 career opportunities in agriculture.  FFA members are part of a total agricultural education program that connects students to exciting careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture.
