Two Students Win Newspapers In Education Awards
- September 19, 2011
Newspapers In Education (NIE) Week was celebrated in March throughout the state of Louisiana with various activities, one of which was the Louisiana Reading Association’s (LRA) NIE Contest for students. Those winners were announced last week, and two East Baton Rouge Parish School System students were tops in their grade levels representing the local Capital Area Council of LRA.
Madisen Williams (pictured, left), a second grader at Woodlawn Elementary School, and Peter Franz (at right), a third grader at the Baton Rouge Center for Visual & Performing Arts, were named winners in the annual competition. At the second-grade level, Williams had to use grocery store ads from the newspaper to illustrate a favorite meal and write a paragraph to accompany it. Franz’s level had to write a news article entitled “What’s Going on in My 3rd-Grade Classroom?”
