Baton Rouge Citizens Treated to a Night at the Opera
- Oct 25, 07
It was standing room only at the Baton Rouge Center for Visual and Performing Arts auditorium on October 25, 2007.
Families and community members gathered for the world premier of the original opera, "Cuidado! It's Up to You." The opera was written and produced by fourth grade students. Performers received a standing ovation for the 30 minute production.
The premier was followed up the next day by a performance in front of a packed house which included the entire student body.
The original faculty who helped with the production were trained in "Creating an Original Opera" by the Metropolitan Opera in New York. For the first 11-12 weeks of school this year the students, along with teachers, were involved in writing and producing the opera.
The students developed a theme, a thesis, line, colors, company name, and a logo. They formed "crews" which worked on publicity, costuming, set design, orchestra, writing, composing, actors, make-up artists, choreography, carpentry, and historians.
