Park Elementary Holds Ribbon-Cutting for Reading Corner

ParkElementary School was awarded a grant through Capital One’s partnership with the Heart of America Foundation to redesign a reading corner in the school library. On Thursday, September 9, the school celebrated with a ribbon-cutting for the corner that included (left to right):student Lyndell Joseph; Colleen Noland of Heart of America; Steve Lousteau, Baton Rouge Marketing president for Capital One; Principal Jessica Brister; State Rep. Steve Carter (District 68); Assistant Superintendent Mary Dominique; retired teacher Marion King; School Board member W.T. Winfield; and student Ashley O'Conner.
The school’s Literacy Team distributed books funded by the project to every student at Park Elementary and read a story to each class. Lousteau read "Alexander, Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday" to the entire student body. In addition, two ParkElementary School student representatives serving as ambassadors were presented with gifts.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
