PFMS Students Rock Climb, Canoe To Learn Leadership Skills
- October 24, 2008
Earlier this month, selected eighth-grade students participated in a leadership retreat allowing them to swim, climb rocks, ride a zip line, canoe, shoot arrows and more to learn about leadership, team building and conflict resolution. The 29 students, nominated by teachers, and 10 teachers from Park Forest Middle School participated not only in confidence-building activities like these but also in seminars and group initiatives (photo). The goal was to encourage students who have leadership qualities to recognize the skills and implement them in school and in the community. Held at the Feliciana Retreat Center in Norwood, the retreat was funded through school fundraisers and Roger and Marcia Moser, school partners through Teach for America’s Sponsor-a-Teacher program. Roger Moser is a former member of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System’s School Board. Melissa Monaco is the teacher the Mosers sponsor. For more information, call (225) 275-6650.
