150 City Year Volunteers Turn Out for Progress Elementary Clean-Up

About 150 City Year Corps volunteers from Baton Rouge and New Orleans descended on Progress Elementary School last week for a big City Year Renovation Project. Principal Loretta Burke-Henry said volunteers made benches, painted, cleaned and landscaped – all the things needed to enhance the school's appearance and learning environment. In fact, several volunteers, such as (pictured, left to right) McKenzie Malanaphy of the Baton Rouge corps and Katie Oliver of the New Orleans corps, took time to draw and paint several book-related murals around the school.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
