School System Reps Join Area Leaders in Richmond

Superintendent Charlotte Placide, School Board President Jerry Arbour, School Board Vice President Jay Augustine and School Board member Jill Dyason joined more than 140 area community leaders on a recent trip to Richmond, VA.
The trip, sponsored by the Baton Rouge Area Chamber of Commerce and the East Baton Rouge city-parish government, is the latest in a long list of trips to similar cities throughout the United States by leaders of the Baton Rouge community. Participants visit these cities to gather best practices in the areas of economic development, downtown development, city service, education, transportation and other city services. The participants bring these ideas back in the hopes of rejuvenating and revitalizing the area. Previous trips included: Nashville; Austin, TX; Raleigh-Durham, NC; and Portland.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
