Riveroaks Elementary School Form Student/Staff Krewes, Get Visit from Mardi Gras Royalty During Parade and Celebration

Riveroaks Elementary School held its first annual Krewe of Eagles Mardi Gras Parade and celebration February 18. The mini parade featured members of the East Baton Rouge Krewe of Jupiter. In separate student and staff krewes, kids created shoebox floats to depict stories in their favorite books, as well.
Staff, students and Krewe of Jupiter members danced to music as they handed out beads and trinkets. Among them were (pictured, left to right) student Kennedy Flowers leading the way for librarian Kara Youngblood, Principal Shilonda Shamlin, reading coach Amy Norsworthy, secretary Sawnda Floyd and guidance counselor Coronda Raven.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
