EBR School Board Appoints Retired Educator to Temporarily Fill Vacant Seat

Baton Rouge, LA- During a Special Meeting of the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board on May 8, 2007, retired educator Juanita Sanford was appointed to complete the unexpired term of District 11 Member Jay Devall. Devall resigned his seat effective April 30, 2007.
Board members approved Sanford’s nomination by a 6 to 4 voice vote. Sanford was one of two candidates who submitted their names for nomination to the vacant seat. A special election to fill the District 11 seat will be held on October 20, 2007.
Juanita Sanford is a former teacher and Assistant Principal at Northeast Elementary School. She was an educator for nearly 20 years. The majority of her service was in the Northeast Community.
Sanford is a resident of Pride, Louisiana and a graduate of Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree with Certifications in Instruction and Administration. Following her retirement, Sanford served as a volunteer in the Northeast area schools.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
