A pair of graduating seniors has each received a one thousand dollar scholarship from the Wal-Mart Foundation. Scotlandville High School student Christina Richardson and Glen Oaks High School student Marsia Winding are the recipients of the 2007 Sam Walton Community Scholarship.
The scholarship is awarded every year to high school seniors across the country. This year 7,000 students received the award. 172 of those awards were given to high school seniors in Louisiana. Christina and Marisa were the only two students in the Baton Rouge area to receive an award from the WalMart Foundation. Sam’s Club Associate Sue Hogue issued the checks to the young women at the Sam’s Club on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge on May 17, 2007.
The scholarship money will be used to cover their college expenses. Christina plans to attend Xavier University and Major in Biology and Marsia plans to attend Nicholls State University and major in Biology.
