Southeast Middle School Holds Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony to Open Two Parent Centers

With a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 14, Southeast Middle School opened two centers to provide a space on campus for parents to meet with teachers; access computers, a fax machine and telephone; and get information about the school and other district and community services. “This is just another step to make our school a ‘community,’” said Principal Amber Renee Boyd.
Participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony were (left to right): M.I. Thomas (school parent liaison), Marlon Cousin (Title I coordinator for Parental Involvement), David Tatman (District 1 School Board representative), Boyd, Nancy LeBlanc (Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) president), LaKeitha Johnson (parent) and Sheila Duplechain (PTO vice president).
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
