Sheanandoah ES Students Re-Enact Acadian Village
- November 26, 2008
Shenandoah Elementary School did something different recently to teach its students about the Acadian people of Louisiana and their history. They set up a hands-on Petit Village on the school playground in earlier this month. In the village, students dressed in period costumes (photo) and re-enacted the lives of Acadian villagers. Kindergarteners and third graders were dressed in long dresses with bonnets and aprons or in hats and jeans with suspenders. They performed activities from the culture, including a dance to Cajun music. “It is a tradition for Shenandoah Elementary to present Petit Village each year,” said teacher Katherine Norris.
