Sherwood Middle Wins Volleyball Tournament

Four of the district’s top volleyball teams converged on Sherwood Middle Academic Magnet’s gymnasium on Tuesday November 11th to decide on who would walk away with the coveted parish trophy. All four of these teams, Capitol Middle, Sherwood Middle, Park Forest Middle and Westdale Middle, fought hard to earn their place at the tournament. Capitol Middle, who came into the game undefeated, played Sherwood for the championship game. Sherwood Middle finished the regular season with only one loss.
The Sherwood Middle team is led by coach Yolandra Newton (center in white shirt). Dana Morrison is the assistant coach. Sherwood's record was 12-1 this year (24-2 in 2 years).
Team members are Kayla A., Daylin B., Jazlyn B., Mikiah B., Rondolyn B., Kelsey B., Tiphianie C., Dabria H., Casey J., Bria J., Jaelyn L., Charity M., Samantha M., Destinie M., Osyania R., Savasia S., Codi S., Christina S., Kierra W., Rachel M. (manager), and Deven H. (manager).
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
