McKinley High Students Selected as Regional Finalists in Math, Science and Technology Competition

Elizabeth Ingram and Spencer Carter will compete at the University of Texas in Austin for the Regional Finals of the Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology.
McKinley High School juniors Spencer Carter and Elizabeth Ingram were selected as Regional Finalists in the Siemens Competition for Math, Science and Technology. The contest was held at the University of Texas in Austin, November 1-4. Carter and Ingram submitted a paper based on their experiments with polymers and shellfish. The students did not place in the competion, but did receive plaques and a $1,000 college scholarship each. In addition, the Siemens Foundation has awarded McKinley High School $2,000 because their students advanced to the Regional Finals.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
