Ernest Gaines Award-Winning Writer Visits With Scotlandville Magnet High School Students

The winner of the 2012 Ernest Gaines Award, Dinaw Mengusta, visited with Arts, Audio/Video Technology and Communications Career Cluster students January 24 at Scotlandville Magnet High School to share his love for writing. Mengestu, who resides in Paris, France, is the author of “A Gathering of Old Men.” He conducted a workshop on writing with students at the event, which was sponsored by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center).
