EBRPSS Students Win Awards at State Science Fair: 2 Achieve First Place; Glasgow Middle Is Top Junior School

East Baton Rouge Parish School System students had their share of wins at the March 23-24 Louisiana State Science and Engineering Fair, which took place at the Louisiana State University. More than 500 students from throughout the state presented projects at the event and competed for awards and scholarships. Although the district did not have any top winners moving on to represent Louisiana in the International Science & Engineering Fair held in Los Angeles in May, competing students from the School System still did quite well:
SENIOR DIVISION -- BATON ROUGE MAGNET HIGH SCHOOL Biochemistry, Third Place – Anna E. Nesterova for “Determination of Total Fat Content and Fat Composition in Local Louisiana Food” Engineering: Electrical and Mechanical, First Place – Joshua D. Springer for “Stabilization of a Quadrotor Flight Using Process Control and Autonomous Tuning” Mathematical Sciences, Second Place – Frank H. Luo for “Hide and Seek” Special Award, Mu Alpha Theta – Springer Special Award, National Association of Professional Engineers – Springer Special Award, U.S. Army – Springer Special Award, Intel Excellence in Computer Science – Bohyung K. Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center).
