Students Elect Obama Prez In Mock Election
- November 3, 2008
Students at Glen Oaks Park Elementary School learned about the importance of voting and being an American citizen recently during a school-wide mock presidential election. As a result, President-Elect Barack Obama was declared the school’s presidential winner with 95 percent of the student votes. The school had 87 percent of its 530 registered voters turn out and vote. Thirty-eight gifted students, in grades ranging from Pre-K to 5, organized the event with “I Voted Today” stickers and sign-in tables, ballots, a ballot box and a statistician table. The gifted students researched and created displays on the candidates, past presidents, the presidential seal, a history of voting and more. The event is aligned with social studies grade-level expectations.
