The 2003-2004 Students of the Year were announced at a ceremony at the IRC on February 19, 2004. The ceremony began with the recognition of the student of the year from every school. Proud parents, families, and school administrators packed the room as they anxiously waited to hear who won.
The East Baton Rouge Parish School System's Students of the Year are Joanne C., Buchanan Elementary School,Samantha M., Southeast Middle School, and Erqi L., Baton Rouge Magnet High School. The winners were selected by a panel of educators who took into consideration student grade point averages, test scores, and performance in oral interviews with each of the finalists. The winners were presented plaques and prizes from the Baton Rouge Teachers' Federal Credit Union who sponsored the event.

Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
