$33,000 in Supplies Stuffed the Buses

Tracy Portle, volunteer director of Volunteers in Public Schools, was surrounded by a sea of boxes last week as she led the counting and distributing of school supplies from the WBRZ’s Stuff the Bus with School Supplies drive.All last week, volunteers from across East Baton Rouge helped organize donated items, like pens, paper, rulers and glue, in boxes to be distributed to elementary and middle school students in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.The first-ever event, held July 17 at Office Depot, was such a success, two buses were filled with $33,000 in school supplies donated by community members.Support also came from co-sponsor Raising Cane’s.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
